In a group of three we talked about the relation between "The Catcher" , "Baseball Mitt" , and "The Mummies". we discussed about how baseball mitt was related to Holden's brother's death, and how he fight with Stradlater for his brother. we also talked about the "love to innocence", "rejection to adult hood", "how he was jealous". how Holden always took care of his younger sister by taking her to carousel, and how they both were best fiends. CHAPTER 18-19
Holden leaves the skating rink, has lunch, and thinks some more about giving Jane a call. He thinks about taking her dancing. He saw her once , dancing with another "moron" named Al Pike who used to wear tight bathing suits and jump off the high dive to show off his muscles. He says if a girl likes a guy, she will say he has an inferiority complex, matter how much jerk he is, and if she doesn't like him, she will say he's conceited, no matter how nice a person he is. Pondering aside, he gives jane a call and hangs up when no one answers. He does need some company for the evening, though, so he looks his address book. Unfortunately, there only three numbers in it: Jane, a former teacher named Mr. Antolini, and his father's office. So he ends up giving Carl luce a call, a guy he used to go to school with at Whooton before he hot kicked out. The wicker bar is located in the Swanky Seton Hotel. Holden doesn't go there as much anymore because its got phonies. Carl shows up, and Holden gives us the backstory: Luce was supposed to be his student adviser at Whooton, but all he did was give all the boys talks about sex and who was a flirt. Holden is surprisingly energetic in his attempts at conversation. he asks right away about carl's sex life, college major etc. they continued to talk for a while.
In this two chapter Holden talks about sexuality a lot. for a fellow who dislikes phonies so much, Holden collects more than his share; Luce us an obvious example. Holden is slightly suspicious but impressed nonetheless. His own sexuality bothers him, as he openly admits in the conversation with Luce.
Questions

Ans: If a girl like a boy, no matter how bad he is, they will say he has an inferiority complex, and if they don't like him, no matter how nice a guy he is, they will say he is conceited.
2) Where does Holden go to pass the time before meeting Carl Luce for a drink? why is it surprising that he goes there?
Ans: He goes to the movie at Radio City. it was surprising because Holden hated the movies.

CHAPTER 8-11
After leaving pencey at late night Holden goes to train station to go to New York. He likes trains at night, since its the only time he can read those cheap magazines without puking. On the train, Holden strikes up conversation with an attractive older woman on the train, Ernest Morrow's mother. Holden offers the woman a cigarette and then admires the way she smokes. She also asks holden about his nose (which has just started bleeding again), and he tells her he got hit in the face by a snowball. Holden gets off at penn station (in New York City) and decide to give someone a buzz on the payphone. But who to call? His brother D.B? His kid sister phoebe? Jane Gallager's mother?
After spending 20 minutes he ends up calling anyone instead, he gets a cab and accidentally give his home address. About halfway there, he remembers he cant go home until Wednesday. before reaching the hotel, he invites the cap driver for a drink but unfortunately the driver refuse. He takes his hunting cap off before going into the lobby, so as to not look like a "screwball," even though he later found out there were "screwballs all over the place." H changes his shirt so he can go downstairs to the lavender room. after a while staying there he leaves. Back in the lobby, He star thinking about Jane Gallagher sitting in Ed Banky's car with stradlater. Any ways the lobby is getting depressing, so he decides to head to Greenwich Village, where D.B. ised to take him once in a while to listen to this guy Ernie play the piano.
Corresponding Questions:
) Have you ever lied just for the fun of it? Explain the situation.
Ans:Yes, for making something interesting, i lied to make it more fun when i go out with my friends to hangout but later on i tell the truth because i don't want to look like a lair.
2) Would you want to be famous? why/why not? how you want to become famous?
Ans: Of course, every one want to become famous these days. The reason why i want to become famous is that people will know you all around the world, you will focus more on your work because you don't want people the see your mistakes and everything.
3) what is the difference between proud and being conceited?
Ans: proud is gratified; feeling honored; feeling satisfied or happy about a fact or event while conceited is having an excessively favorable opinion of one's abilities, appearance etc.
Reflection:
a sign of Holden's loneliness, self imposed alienation, and depression: he has friends but doesn't want to contact them. Holden's hat and duck question are not childish and inappropriate for someone his age. Holden obviously would rather see Jane, and thinks of sex as dirty. to protect his illusions of Jane's purity, he isolates himself. He is judgmental he views "perverts" in their hotel room doing various things, he watches them and judge their actions.
Questions:
1) how much does Holden think it will cost him to get a prime table in the lavender room?
Ans: Holden doesn't care about my money as his father is a lawyer. he has round 80 dollars so he is not worrying about it.
2) How does Holden know about Ernie's in Greenwich Village?
Ans: His brother D.B used to bring him there sometimes and he enjoyed it much.
Holden is so lonely that he is trying to find someone to talk to but no one is welling to set with him.
Depression and loneliness completely changed him .

Explanation: through out the book, calling someone is a big thing for Holden. every time he is depressed or lonely, he turns to the phone. he wishes he had someone to call, or that someone would call him.
CHAPTER 2-7
When Holden reach's Mr. spencer's house, he went to his room and saw him reading ATLANTIC MONTHLY. They talked about Mr.thurmer, the headmaster, and the way he told Holden that life is a game, later on he noticed that a big lecture is coming so he decide to leave. as he heads out the front door he thinks he hear spencer yelling something like "Good luck!" after him. He heads to pencey after, on the way he tells he is a liar "the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life. When he reaches Pencey he goes straight to his room and start to chill for a while by reading (Out Of Africa). Later on one of his friend shows up (Ackley) Holden isn't interest because ackley is a type of person that touches your stuff with out permission and never puts it back in its place.after sometime his roommate Stradlater shows up asking him for his hound's-tooth jacket.
Stradlater takes off his shirt and tie so he can have a shave and show off his fantastic body. Meanwhile, his date is waiting in the annex. Holden asks him about his date and when Stradlater says his date's name is Jane Gallagher, Holden nearly drops dead. Stradlater knows nothing about this girl, but Holden goes on that how she used to dance ballet when she was little, when they played checker, she would never move her king from the back row because she "liked the way they look.Holden and Jane was close friends a while ago. Stradlater asks Holden if can do his essay as he is not going any where. he start writing an essay when nothing pops up on his mind so he just start writing about his brother(Allie) who died of leukemia in 1946. later on Holden and his friend Mal Brossard take the bus into ton for the night. Its still saturday night. Holden is awake and worrying about Jane and the possibility of roomie stradlater getting it on with her. it when Stradlater finally comes back, return's hound's tooth jacket, and notably says nothing about his date. Holden asks about Jane. later on they get into a fight and Stradlater smacks holden a good one in the nose, resulting in quite the bloody mess. Holden decide to leave penecy and packs his stuff. wears his hunting hat and yells down the corridor at the top of his lungs. sleep tight, ya morons!"
Corresponding Questions:
1) what "phony" or "fake" thing do people do that really bothers you ?
Ans: when you meet someone after a long time and they say "Hey! We should hang out sometimes", this is most likely fake because no one says this and mean it. To hangout you have to spend at least a certain amount of time together.
2) what percentage of the day your bored? what bores you and why ?
Ans: As we are busy with studies, i would say i am bored about 10% of the day because there is time in everyone's life where they have nothing to do and i think this is the time that we should use towards ourselves and think about the things we will be doing in the future.
3)Are u bitter about life? what about life makes you the most depressed?
Ans: Yes Sometimes, when you notice the people around you are just staying with you for a reason. When you do your best to keep them happy, but when you have problems in your life or you need help, they never stay with you or just leave you alone with everything that's when you become depressed.
4)explain a time when your incredibly jealous of someone. did you do anything about it?
Ans: I become jealous when ever i see someone doing better then me and think to myself "why is he better then me". So what i do is try my best to do better then them or if not better, at least equal to them.
Reflection:
We see that Holden is very judgmental in the book and he has a very peculiar attitude toward other people. For example he mentions a lot times about Ackley's pimples and how they disgust them. we see that Holden doesn't car enough for school and fails four of his subjects introverted and doesn't like talking to people. Throughout the book we see that Holden is trying to alienate himself from the rest of crowd. he has bad habit of judging people, this eventually leads to the downfall of him. We also see him wearing his red hat which is also a way for him to alienate himself from the rest of the school. There is a very slangy language used in the book. many if not all the characters casually swear in the book. Many examples such as "like a bastard" and "goddamn" are used in the book by characters quite frequently.
Make up Questions:
1) what does the fight between Holden and Stradlater tell us about Holden?
Ans: The fight tells us that Holden has a high regard for women he cares about and in this it Jane.He is defending her in a way. Holden also calls Stradlater a moron and Stradlater fights him which show how immature they can be.
2) why do you think Holden wants to alienate himself?
Ans: I think Holden want to alienate himself because he doesn't feel sharing his personal life with other people and keeping himself a part from other is a good way for him to not talk about himself and adhere introverted personalities.
I think in the next chapters as he moves to New York, he will do something to make himself comfortable and relaxed as he is trying to find someone to talk to.
Holden talks about how depressed he is in the book so i choose a song about depression that matches up the way Holden describe his depression.

Chapter One
The first thing you hear from this young guy is that his parents wouldn't want him to tell you about his personal life. Doesn't matter. He's going to tell us all about "this madman stuff" that happened last Christmas. He says he's got a brother named D.B. who's out in Hollywood "being a prostitute," which we know means "writing scripts," since D.B. used to write short stories. He hates the movies. Pencey is hosting a big-deal football game against rival Saxon Hall.He doesn't feel like watching the game, so he hangs out up on a hill and watches the crowd from a distance. He has been kicked out of school because he failed are his courses except English. Before he leaves the school he wants to go say good-bye to his history teacher, Mr. Spencer. After watching the game, he heads off toward Mr. Spencer's but not too fast because he is a "heavy smoker".
Have you ever felt like you were not just there, like you might disappear?
Yes,it happened to me several times when i was not knowing my stuff and it felt like i was not there. as Holden was leaving school because he failed in all his courses he felt guilty when he was on top of the hill watching the game and it felt like he was lost and not knowing what he was going to do.
Holden is a type of person who does what ever pops up in his head. he never listen to his family or teacher. He is not focusing in his studies and never thinks of his future. He is arrogant, selfish, and immature. He is always in a hurry and doesn't think before doing any thing. He is alternately depressed, confused, angry, anxious, perceptive.Holden resents the adult world and resists entry into it.
Questions:
1.Who is Mr. Spencer, and why was Holden going to visit him?
Mr.Spencer is one his Holdens teacher who teaches them history in school. He went to see him for the last time before he leaves the school.
2. Who is Selma Thurmer, and why did Holden like her?
She was the headmaster's daughter. Holden was thinking that she was a pretty nice girl. Holden liked her because she didn't tell a lot about what a great man her father was.
3.What are some of Holden's favorite phrases or words?
Holden's favorite word is "phony" and "phoniness."
At the end of the chapter Holden reaches his teacher "Mr.spencer's" house. In the next chapter he will probably talks with his teacher And discuss what he is going to do.
As in this chapter it was all about Holden (the main character). this picture describes him the best.
